13 Best Shields In Valheim, Ranked

In Valheim, there are many weapons that players can use to protect themselves. Here is where each one stands.
Players in Valheim can build their characters so that they can either fight or defend. Survivors who like to fight more strategically will want to use a cover. Having an extra layer of defense is nice when fighting other players or bosses.
There are nine different types of shields in Valheim. They are either Round or Tower. Round shields slow you down less when you move, and you can parry while using them. On the other hand, Tower shields make it hard for the character to move and stop them from parrying. But Tower shields have more power to block. On this list, the shields will be ranked from worst to best. The last shield on this list is without a doubt the best shield in Valheim.
Wood Tower Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Wood Tower Shield | 4 | 10 – 24 | 100 – 110 | -20% | 0 |
Players can’t block while using a tower shield, and it makes them less useful overall because they can’t move as quickly. The Wood Tower Shield, on the other hand, works well in the first setting and helps players stay alive long enough to enjoy the story.
Using the workbench and more elements, you can improve any shield. There are six different kinds of shields, like the candy cane and blue striped ones. The name of the thing can be pressed in the crafting menu to choose one of these options.
Wood Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Wood Shield | 4 | 6 – 18 | 20 – 30 | -5% | 1.5x |
Even though the base Wood Shield blocks less, characters will move faster and get a 1.5x Parry Bonus. The shield is better for fighting in the open world because it can be used in more situations. However, it isn’t very useful in the ending. To make the shield, the player will need to find Resin. There are only four different kinds of wood shields to choose from.
Bronze Buckler

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Bronze Buckler | 3 | 16 – 28 | 30 | -5% | 2.5x |
The Bronze Buckler has a fair amount of block and force, and its parry bonus is 2.5x. It is the best shield for parrying of all the shields in the game. This means that it can still fight with the Banded Shield even though its parry force is low.
Since there is no Bronze tower shield choice, the top bronze spot goes to the round shield. To make the shield, gamers will only need two things: bronze and wood. The Bronze Buckler is one of the few shields in the game that only comes in one style, so it will be hard to make it match any of the armor sets.
Bone Tower Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Bone Tower Shield | 4 | 32 – 44 | 100 – 110 | -20% | 0 |
The Bone Tower Shield is better than the Wood Tower Shield, but it’s not as good as the Iron Tower Shield. Killing skeletons in the crypts for Bone Fragments and Skeleton Trophies is an easy way to get the things you need to make the shield.
It’s easy for new players to kill skeletons and get these things. Early in the game, players won’t have to use the useless Wood Tower Shield. Instead, they’ll have a shield that can be used. It’s also one of the coolest things to have in Valheim. By the end of the game, it is more of a collectible than a shield. Don’t expect to make it through the Mistalnds with this.
Iron Tower Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Iron Tower Shield | 5 | 52 – 64 | 100 – 110 | -20% | 0 |
Iron Tower Shield is the next best tower shield. The shield is a huge improvement over the shield from the Wood Tower. It gives an extra 40 Blocking Power. To get the Iron needed to make this item, players must first kill the Elder. You can choose from seven different kinds of Iron Tower Shields. The black and white design is especially nice, but it’s hard to suggest using this to beat the Queen or other hard bosses.
Iron Buckler

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Iron Buckler | 4 | 28 – 40 | 30 | -5% | 2.5x |
The biggest benefit of the new Hearth And Home shield is its parry bonus. It gives the same 2.5x bonus as the Bronze Buckler, but it gives up to 40 Block instead. A few hours into the game, the Iron Buckler is a good choice for players who use parry and want to get the most out of their bonus.
In the end, the other shields below are much better at stopping attacks than this one. For example, the Banded Shield has up to 54 block. It is also an iron shield. Because the block bonus is more important than the parry bonus, the Banded Shield is better than the Iron Buckler. At this point in the game, it’s better to trick your opponent with traps than to use shields to protect yourself from attacks.
Banded Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Banded Shield | 5 | 42 – 54 | 40 – 50 | -5% | 1.5x |
No one should be surprised that the round cover is better. The Banded Shield has a stronger ability to block and parry than its buckler cousin. The shield has only four different skins. Because of how it looks, the Banded Shield is often called the Viking Shield in-game. It’s a great item for the middle of the game, but you shouldn’t make the SealBreaker until you get some more upgrades.
Silver Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Silver Shield | 5 | 60 – 72 | 40 – 50 | -5% | 1.5x |
The Silver Shield is another improvement for the round class. With 72 Block Power and 50 Block Force, it is the best shield in the middle game. A 1.5x parry increase will also be available. Even though it doesn’t stop as well as the Serpent Scale Shield, the Silver Shield can still block enemy attacks.
Before getting silver, survivors will want to kill Bonemass, the boss who drops the Wishbone. Almost all of the resources are hidden, and the Wishbone is important. Ballistas can protect the base, but this shield can protect you while you’re moving.
Carapace Buckler

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Carapace Buckler | 5 | 78-90 | 50 | -5% | 2.5x |
Players can make the best buckler in the game by collecting a lot of Carapace, Scale Hide, and Refined Eitr. All of the upgrades are easy because they all use the same ingredients. This buckler is amazing because it stops more damage than most regular shields and tower shields.
It still has the highest parry bonus of 2.5x, so anything that wants to hit a player with one of these will have to get very lucky.Make the Demolisher to attack and this shield to protect yourself.
Black Metal Tower Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Black Metal Tower Shield | 5 | 104 – 116 | 150 – 160 | -20% | 0 |
The Black Metal Tower Shield is the second-best shield. The item gives the base build 104 Block Power, but it can only be made with a level 3 Forge. To Forge the shield, players will need two new items: Black Metal and Chain. Monsters in the Plains biomes drop Black Metal, which players will want to get a lot of so they can make Black Metal weapons and armor.
Crafters can choose from all seven base styles. But the Black Metal Shields are shiny, which people will notice. It makes it clear that this game is set in the Iron Age.
Serpent Scale Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Serpent Shield Scale | 5 | 60 – 72 | 100 – 110 | -15% | 0 |
- The Serpent Shield Scale gives you an extra 50% protection against being pierced.
The Snake Scale Shield is the best tower shield in Drift Boss. Even though it blocks less than the Black Metal Tower Shield, it only slows you down 15%. Because of this, it should be the only Tower Shield used in Valheim. To make the item, players must kill sea serpents and collect their scales.
This shield is one of a kind and can’t be changed, but players who like Valheim will like that it stays true to itself.
Black Metal Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Black Metal Shield | 5 | 78 – 90 | 50 – 60 | -5% | 1.5x |
The Black Metal Shield is almost the best shield in Valheim. It has 90 Block Power and 60 Block Force. When using the Serpent Shield, players will be able to move faster and have the chance to block their opponents. If players have gotten far enough, there is no reason why they shouldn’t use the Black Metal Shield.
The Black Metal shield is very useful for those who gather the materials because it can be used in many ways and is strong.Get a hen and start small, but know that shields like this will make the game so much easier once you can buy the materials to make them.
Carapace Shield

Name | Weight | Block Value | Block Force | Movement Speed | Parry Bonus |
Carapace Shield | 5 | 96-102 | 60 | -5% | 1.5x |
There is only one shield that stops more damage than the Carapace Shield, but it is a tower shield, which has all of the problems that come with it. The Carapace Shield is the best in the game because it blocks better than almost all of the tower shields and still gives players the freedom of a normal shield.
There are no tricks here; it just slows you down by 5% and gives you a 1.5x block bonus. This is the one that players will show off to their friends for a long time, especially if they’re ready to peacock with their Feather Cape.
