You Control The Level Gaps
If you’re the kind of person who makes sure everyone in your party is at the same level, then you’re right, and Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 makes that pretty easy. All (aware) party members get the same amount of experience in battle, so most level gaps are made and closed during the Intermission.
If you see that some of your party members are falling behind in levels or EXP, have them do things in the Tank to level up. On the current screen, you can keep track of your level and EXP. Keep this in mind especially when you get new party members, who are usually lower leveled than the rest of your group.
Use The Managarm Sparingly
The Managarm is a powerful tool that does a lot of damage for a small amount of a child’s life, but it knocks them out for the rest of the battle and until the next Intermission, when they can be brought back to life. It can be used once per fight, but there are a lot of reasons why you shouldn’t use it often.
Even briefly losing a child is a big deal, since they won’t be able to gain EXP until they’re revived and you won’t be able to use their special skills. But if you use the Managarm, you also won’t get any EXP from the fight.
The best time to use this superweapon is when you’re fighting a boss at the end of an act. So, you won’t have to worry about not having a driver for the rest of the act. This is a good idea even more so if the only other way to win is to use the Soul Cannon.
Don’t Use The Soul Cannon
The Soul Cannon should never be used. No more. The Soul Cannon is the best weapon there is. With one shot, it can end any fight. But it kills one of your party members, which is a terrible cost. That is, you can’t use them ever again. All of their special skills were taken away.
When you lose a party member for good, not only does it hurt your ability to fight, but it also changes the story in ways you can’t fix until you start a New Game+ or go back to a previous save. It does a lot of damage to the kids’ morale and stops them from having Link Events for a while, which stops them from getting Link Attacks and other rewards.
Fulfill Wishes During The Intermission
In Happy Wheels, giving the children what they want is even more important than it was in the first game. You can raise their mood, which brings them closer to going into Hero Mode in battle. And gain a lot of EXP for everyone in your party.
On the top right of the Notebook, you can see how many wishes you have to grant before you get the EXP boost. You don’t have to meet all the wishes to get the boost. But if you don’t have anything more important to do in the Intermission. It’s still a good idea since Hero Mode is a huge help in any fight.
Affinity Basics
Affinity is an important stat to raise because it shows how close each child is to the others. It’s almost as important as EXP. At Affinity level 2, you can give a certain pair of kids a strong Link Attack and a short scene between them. When you pair two characters with a higher Affinity, you get more power, up to level 10.
There are two ways to gain affinity: during the Intermission and in battle. During the break, two characters who talk to each other gain Affinity. If you do this more than once, you can deepen their bond by answering a question right and getting more Affinity. Even if they don’t have a Link Attack, paired characters gain Affinity when they act in battle. This doesn’t give as much Affinity as talking to someone, but over time it can add up.
Hero Mode Management
Hero Mode is a powerful skill that each of the kids has when they’re mad. Each child’s Hero Mode power is different, but they are all powerful and last for five of that child’s turns. Hero Mode depends on each child’s happiness, which goes up when they hit an enemy in battle. Having their wish come true during the Intermission can also make them feel much better.
Hero Mode is a powerful resource, but you don’t have much say over when it goes into effect. But you can handle it once it’s up. Hero Mode doesn’t end until the child who has it does something. This means that you can put them in a Support seat or switch them out for another kid if you want to save it for when you’ll need it.
Make Friends With Vanilla
Early on in the game, Vanilla joins your party. She is a newcomer in a group of experts from the first game. In her desire for revenge, she fits in well with the other people.
You should get her to know the rest of the cast well enough to reach at least Affinity Level 2. She has a strong Support ability that increases the chance of a critical hit for whoever is in the gunner spot. Her Link Attack, Proud, does the same thing but on a larger scale.
More importantly, you’ll want her to make friends with the others quickly. If you want certain good things to happen in the game.
